A Contrarian View: Profiting from GenAI despite the bubble
The recent spat of articles questioning the profitability of the billions going into GenAI makes us smile. Yes, we are in a bubble in many areas of the investment landscape, for sure. And yes, the media (and industry) breathlessly over-hyped the near-term potential of GenAI over the past 18 months. This is a classic tech media hype cycle that we’ve experienced so many times. And now the pendulum is swinging back the other way, in a predicable anti-hype cycle. Goldman Sachs published a remarkable, 31-page report wondering aloud whether all the investment in AI is worth it. But they also presented a more optimistic view at the same time.
Addressing the hype head-on and showing our investors and industry partners areas where we are confident that medium and long-term ROI will be generated, Will Poole and Susana Garcia-Robles hosted a workshop with the Middle East Venture Capital Association (MEVCA) titled “Profiting from GenAI despite the bubble.” Topics covered included the evolving landscape of GenAI, what GenAI will and will not become, and how it can unlock value in undervalued sectors. Capria partners discussed the do’s and don’ts to consider when investing in GenAI. Notably, viewers witnessed a live demo of the Capria Due Diligence Co-Pilot, which was created by our in-house GenAI development team. The DD Co-Pilot is a chat interface on top of a RAG (Retrieval Augmented Generation) database that takes investors through the due diligence process, making it easy to find information in the mountains of slides and documents provided by entrepreneurs and fund managers. You can find a recording of the webinar and the deck here.
