VC investments in Latin America have boomed over the last couple of years as investors chase the digital transformation of a market of over 600 million people.
When the pandemic erupted in 2020, many individuals in the region were forced to start doing everything from shopping to banking online. Large swaths of Latin America’s population began making digital transactions for the first time.
In 2021, VCs invested $16.3 billion across more than 900 deals in Latin America, according to PitchBook data.
In recent years, international investors like SoftBank and Tiger Global have started to invest in Latin America. But local firms still tend to dominate early-stage funding rounds.
